Utthan empowers Pakistani women with culturally sensitive health resources, education, and support, helping them prioritize their well-being and thrive through holistic programs and healthcare partnerships.
Welcome to Utthan, where our journey of empowerment began with a simple yet powerful idea: upliftment.
Derived from the Sanskrit word for “rise” or “elevation,” Utthan signifies progress, growth, and the power of positive change. For us, it represents the essence of what we seek to provide—an opportunity for women to rise above the challenges they face and thrive in all aspects of their lives.
We believe that informed and healthy women can transform their families and communities. We work to empower women with the knowledge and tools to take charge of their health.
We are committed to breaking down barriers to healthcare by providing services and resources to women, particularly in underserved areas.
Our work is driven by empathy and understanding, ensuring women receive care with dignity and respect, acknowledging the unique health challenges they face.
We foster strong partnerships within local communities, collaborating with women, healthcare providers, and leaders to create sustainable health initiatives.
We focus on lasting health solutions by building capacity within communities to ensure women can access care and resources for generations to come.
We acknowledge that Utthan operates on the stolen territory of many nations, including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnaabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee, and the Wendat peoples, and is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. We also recognize that Toronto is covered by Treaty 13 with the Mississaugas of the Credit.
We are committed to understanding the ongoing impacts of colonization and working in solidarity with Indigenous communities to honor their histories, cultures, and contributions.
Utthan is a registered nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the health and well-being of Pakistani women. The word "Utthan" means "upliftment," and our mission is to empower women by providing access to healthcare resources, promoting wellness education, and supporting their overall physical, mental, and emotional health.
Utthan was founded to address the unique challenges faced by Pakistani women, both in Canada and abroad. We recognize that cultural, societal, and economic factors often create barriers to healthcare access, mental health support, and overall well-being for Pakistani women. By focusing on this community, we aim to provide targeted support that meets their specific needs in a culturally sensitive and effective manner.
Utthan is a new nonprofit organization that aims to offer a range of services, including health and wellness education, preventive care programs, mental health resources, and community-driven initiatives that address women’s specific needs.
Our organization is based in Toronto, Canada, but our programs will extend to women both locally and abroad. We will also offer online resources and virtual events to reach women beyond our physical location.
